Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I change the Product Key?

A: In the unlikely event where the Gateway/eMachines supplied version of Windows Vista™ is prompting for activation, and you are using the Gateway/eMachines motherboard that came with the computer, you can try to change the current product key for Windows Vista to the product key found on the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) label of the computer. After the product key from the COA label is entered, you can attempt to activate Windows. To change the product key, use these steps:

  1. From the Windows Vista default Start menu, right-click Computer, and then click Properties.

  2. In the System Properties window, in the Windows activation section, click Change product key.
