Windows Vista - Convertible and Tablet Notebook Stylus Pen
- Recalibrate the pen. Tap or click Start, click Control Panel, click Mobile PC, then click Tablet PC Settings. The Tablet PC Settings dialog box opens.
General Tab Options
To change handedness settings:
- Tap Right-handed (menu appears on right) or Left-handed (menu appears on left).
Adjusting these settings improves handwriting recognition and changes the location of menus so that your hand does not cover them.
To calibrate the pen:
- Tap or click Calibrate.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
Note: You must calibrate for each screen orientation. To calibrate for a different screen orientation, select the screen orientation, and then calibrate again.
Display Tab Options
To change the display orientation:
- From the Orientation drop-down list, tap or click the name of the screen orientation.
- Tap or click Change to select the order in which your screen orientations change when using the Tablet PC icon or if assigning a button to change the screen orientation.
Note: First customize a tablet button using the procedure below, and then you can use a tablet button to change the screen orientation.
Button Tab Options
To change a Tablet button:
- From the Button Settings drop-down list, tap or click the screen orientation you are changing the button settings for.
- Tap or click the button to be customized, and then tap or click Change. The Change Tablet Button Actions dialog box opens.
- Tap or click the action to be performed by each button chosen.
- If you chose Press a key or key combination or Start a program, be sure to enter the correct information, and then tap or click OK.
Other Tab Options
To customize pen action:
- Tap or click Go to Pen and Input Devices. The Pen and Input Devices dialog box opens.
- Click the pen action you wish to change, and then click Settings.
- Use the sliders to adjust the Speed and the Spatial Tolerance. Use the Double-tap test to test your double-tap settings.
To adjust a Pen button:
- Select the Use pen button to right-click check box to have the pen button perform a right-click equivalent.
- Select or clear the Use top of the pen to erase check box to turn the pen eraser on or off.
- Update the driver.
- Make sure that there is a connection to the Internet.
- Click Start. In the Start Search dialog box, type: devices, and then click Device Manager.
- In Device Manager, double-click the device (such as the pen device) to update.
- Right-click the specific device driver, and then click Update Driver Software.
- Click Search automatically for updated driver software. The notebook searches for the latest drivers.
- Follow any screen prompts.
Note: If this does not work, check the Gateway Support Web site for additional drivers.
- Rollback the driver.
- Make sure that there is a connection to the Internet.
- Click Start. In the Start Search dialog box, type: device,and then click Device Manager.
- In Device Manager, select the device that Roll Back Driver needs to be used on, and then from the Action menu, click Properties.
Note: Printer drivers cannot be restored with Device Driver Roll Back. Driver Roll Back only reverts to the previously installed driver.
- In the Properties dialog box for the selected device, click the Driver tab, and then click Roll Back Driver.
- When prompted to roll back the previous driver, click Yes.
- The driver is changed back to the previous driver. The driver name, driver provider, driver date, driver version, and digital signer change to the corresponding driver. In the Properties dialog box for the selected device, click Close.
- In the System Settings Change dialog box, click Yes to restart the computer for the changes to take effect.
- Remove and then reinstall the device (under Human Interface Devices - pen, fine point, and so forth).
- Click Start. In the Start Search dialog box, type: device, and then click Device Manager.
- In Device Manager, double-click Human Interface Devices.
- Right-click the pen device driver, and then click Uninstall.
Note: The pen driver will have pen, fine point, or something similar in the name of the driver.
- Follow all onscreen prompts.
- Right-click Human Interface Devices, and then click Scan for hardware changes.
- The computer looks for new hardware and automatically installs the correct driver.
- Follow any on-screen prompts.
